Job Purpose
- As a Banksman at APM Terminals, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe movement of container handling equipment and vehicles within the terminal.
- You will be responsible for guiding drivers, operators, and crane movements to prevent accidents and ensure adherence to safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and guide drivers and equipment operators during container loading and unloading operations.
- Use hand signals or communication tools (e.g., radios) to clearly and effectively guide movements.
- Monitor surroundings for any potential hazards and take preventive action when necessary.
- Ensure adherence to terminal safety procedures and report any unsafe acts or conditions.
- Conduct pre-shift equipment and area checks to ensure operational readiness.
- Ensure safe maneuvering of vehicles in congested or tight spaces within the terminal.
- Maintain constant communication with crane operators, drivers, and ground staff to ensure safety.
Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions precisely.
- Physically fit and alert, with the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to work in rotating shifts.
- Prior experience in terminal operations or as a banksman is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and traffic management in industrial environments.
