Job description: WHO WE AREThe International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.THE PURPOSEUnder the supervision of the Nutrition Delegate, the Nutritionist 2 supports nutrition activities in all program areas including assessments, planning, implementation of the programs for management of acute malnutrition at the health facilities (primary health care centres and hospitals), including Out-patient Therapeutic Programs (OTP), Stabilization Centres (SC), growth monitoring promotion (GMP), Infant and young child feeding (IYCF). Contributes to the assessment of the clinical and nutritional status of hospitalized patients, including wounded individuals, and recommends appropriate diets accordingly.YOUR ROLE
- Assesses needs and designs nutrition-specific interventions to respond to malnutrition including micronutrient deficiencies in catchment population of ICRC supported Health facilities.
- Prepares proposals/Plans of Actions, result monitoring framework and activity plans
- Ensures guidelines are available and implemented within the ICRC nutrition projects.
- Monitors Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP’s), Stabilisation Centres (SC) and Supplementary Feeding Programme (SFP) for Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLWs) with Nutrition Delegate as well as Health Delegate/team at Sub Delegation level and technically support the teams at supported facilities
- Maintains an overview of the nutritional stocks and supports Nutrition Delegate to work with Logistics to ensure that there is sufficient stock to cover programs.
- Prepares training programs in collaboration with Nutrition Delegate and management of sub-delegations in line with ICRC and MoH training curriculums
- Maintain a close coordination with the UN Nutrition Cluster, State/MoH authorities and other partners supporting with nutrition activities
- Develop and maintain good coordination with the various humanitarian actors, authorities and professionals in Nigeria in relation to the nutrition programmes
- Carries out field visits to program areas on a regular basis – with up to 85% travel to field.
YOUR PROFILE: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Human Nutritional science, Nursing, MBBS.
- A Master of Public Health would be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing emergency nutrition and health programs, especially CMAM including Stabilization Centres.
- Familiar with Nigerian public health sector systems is highly desirable.
- Familiar with Nigerian National CMAM, IYCF and GMP technical protocols.
- Fluent in written and spoken English; proficiency in the local language, Hausa, is an asset.
- Good reporting and analytical skills and well-developed computer skills.
- Applicant must have a valid working permit to work in Nigeria.
