Job description: Job Description:Our client is a leading supplier of high-quality fragrance oils in West Africa, and they are looking to hire an Accountant in Lagos.Job Summary:The primary role involves managing all financial aspects of importing European fragrances for sale within the West African market. The ideal candidate will ensure the financial health of the company by upholding accounting standards, managing tax obligations, and providing strategic financial insights.Key Responsibilities:Financial Management:
- Oversee the preparation and management of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Manage the company’s budget, ensuring accurate forecasting and financial planning.
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
- Handle all aspects of accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing, payment processing, and collections from local distributors.
- Ensure timely payments to European suppliers, manage currency exchange, and mitigate
financial risks associated with international transactions.Inventory Accounting:
- Monitor and manage inventory costs, including tracking shipments from Europe to Nigeria, and within West Africa.
- Coordinate with logistics to reconcile physical stock with accounting records.
Taxation:
- Prepare and file all necessary tax returns, including VAT, corporate taxes, and any international tax obligations related to import/export activities.
- Stay updated with Nigerian and West African tax laws affecting the fragrance industry.
Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with local and international accounting standards (e.g., IFRS).
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of import regulations, customs duties, and compliance requirements.
Cost Analysis:
- Analyze costs associated with importation (freight, duties, etc.) to advise on cost-saving measures.
- Perform profitability analysis on different product lines or regions.
Reporting:
- Generate regular financial reports for management, highlighting key performance indicators,
financial status, and areas of concern or opportunity.Audit Support:
- Facilitate internal and external audits, preparing necessary documentation and ensuring all
financial practices are transparent.Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional certification such as ACA, ACCA or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting, preferably with exposure to import/export businesses.
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar).
- Strong understanding of Nigerian tax laws and VAT.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with various stakeholders.
- Must be adept at working in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in the fragrance or luxury goods industry.
- Knowledge of West African market dynamics and business practices.
- Fluency in French or another European language could be beneficial.
