Job Title: Buying & Merchandiser Planner

Location: Lekki, Lagos

Job Brief

  • The Buying & Merchandise Planner will play a pivotal role in the planning and forecasting of upcoming merchandise purchases, leveraging data insights from historical and recurring buys, current industry trends, and real-time inventory analytics to inform decision-making.
  • S/he will actively contribute to coordinating stock deliveries to stores, aligning with approved capacity plans and store profiles to achieve sales objectives.
  • This role includes the responsibility of optimizing inventory flow, managing transfers between warehouse and store locations, and ensuring seamless operations for store vs. warehouse stock movements.
  • The Buying & Merchandise Planner will proactively identify opportunities for improvement in inventory management, promptly addressing changes in inventory forecasts that directly impact key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • S/he focus will be on maintaining an efficient supply chain to enhance overall operational effectiveness and contribute to the organization’s success.
  • Buyer & Merchandiser Planner Responsibilities include:
  • Contribute to developing merchandise plans with strong analytical skills.
  • Collaborate on defining merchandising strategy with an eagerness to learn strategic planning and strong communication skills, and deliver maximum sales, margin, and profit to the business.
  • Work with retail merchandisers, showing willingness to learn about retail and sales processes.
  • Analyse merchandise planning data, demonstrating basic data analysis skills.
  • Contribute to formulating a strategic merchandising plan, offering ideas, and following instructions.
  • Contribute to developing merchandise plans for brands, demonstrating awareness of customer preferences and a willingness to learn historical trend analysis.
  • Participate in monitoring strategic plans with a basic understanding of financials and inventory management.
  • Identify slow-moving stock, displaying a problem-solving orientation and a willingness to learn about brand guidelines.
  • Participate in preparing variance analysis reports with basic data analysis skills and an interest in performance evaluation.
  • Support team members’ development, expressing a willingness to learn and grow in the role and possessing a team player mentality.
  • Contribute to proposing process improvements, showing eagerness to contribute to continuous improvement and an interest in streamlining processes.
  • Collaborate on maintaining stakeholder relationships, demonstrating basic interpersonal skills and professional communication.
  • Collaborate on setting bottom-up targets with a basic understanding of forecasting concepts and an interest in pricing strategy.
  • Participate in showroom preparation coordination, being a team player and eager to learn about collaboration with other teams.
  • Provide order intake information, paying attention to detail in data reporting and showing an interest in financial aspects of merchandising.
  • Support maintaining optimum inventory levels with an eagerness to learn about inventory optimization and a basic understanding of store requirements and resourcing.
  • Contribute to managing excess inventory, demonstrating a willingness to learn about policy adherence and process management.
  • Collaborate with store managers on product deliveries, showcasing strong organizational skills and the ability to follow timelines and coordinate with others.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Commercial Team.

Core Qualifications / Skills / Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business Management or the Fashion field.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and tools.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.
  • Commercial acumen.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of relevant product management experience, preferably with top-tier international sports or lifestyle brands and/or experience as footwear, apparel, or accessories buyer.
  • Business Intelligence.
