Job description: Job Description:Our client is a pioneering organisation set to launch the first electronic gas trading platform in Nigeria. Positioned at the intersection of energy reform and capital markets innovation, the company is poised to transform the country’s gas trading landscape under the regulatory framework of the Petroleum Industry Act (2021) and Gas Trading & Settlement Regulations (2023).Backed by experts across energy, finance, law, and technology, this high-impact start-up aims to introduce transparency, standardisation, and efficiency in Nigeria’s gas trading system. With regulatory approvals underway, the platform will facilitate secure and transparent gas transactions across the country and region.Strategic Leadership

  • Define and implement the strategic plan in alignment with Board directives.
  • Build and lead an effective executive team and high-performance culture.
  • Ensure readiness to respond to market dynamics and regulatory change.

Operational Oversight

  • Oversee core areas including Operations, Finance, Compliance, Technology, and Business Development.
  • Collaborate with the COO on platform operations, market surveillance, and settlements.

Stakeholder & Regulatory Engagement

  • Serve as lead representative to Nigerian regulators, investors, clients, and strategic partners.
  • Maintain compliance with national and regional laws governing energy and commodity markets.

Technology & Risk Management

  • Partner with the CTO to ensure robust, scalable, and secure trading systems.
  • Lead the implementation of risk management strategies across all operational domains.

Financial & Commercial Stewardship

  • Direct budgeting, financial planning, and reporting processes.
  • Manage cost-efficiency and drive revenue growth.

People & Culture

  • Promote a culture of excellence, accountability, and innovation.
  • Support HR in attracting, retaining, and developing key talent.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years in a structured corporate environment, with experience in energy, commodity trading, or capital markets.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field (MSc/MBA advantageous).
  • Deep understanding of Nigerian and West African regulatory landscapes.
  • Demonstrated experience launching new ventures or platforms in emerging markets.
  • Strong financial acumen and familiarity with digital platforms and infrastructure.
  • Experience in managing relationships with regulators, boards, and technical teams
  • Visionary yet hands-on leader with entrepreneurial flair.
  • Gravitas and credibility in both public and private sector spaces.
  • High integrity and resilience under pressure.
  • Excellent communicator with strong cultural awareness and stakeholder empathy.
  • Comfortable operating in lean, high-stakes environments.
  • Experience in launching or scaling a regulated exchange or digital marketplace.
  • Pan-African or West African operational experience.
