Job Summary

  • Primarily responsible for managing the credit risk associated with allotted Business Credit Application (BCA) Portfolio and ensuring high quality of the portfolio within the SME Banking Business.
  • Closely work with the RMs, Credit Approvers, and other stakeholders from the origination & play a vital role in deal structuring to add good value from a Credit Policy and Underwriting perspective.
  • Interact with the client, gather deal requirements, financial statements and other inputs for performing quality analysis and due diligence.
  • Ensure quality Credit Analysis throughput and speedy BCA completion.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy:

  • Identify business/improvements opportunities.
  • Partner with Stakeholders to enhance and service synergy/enable improved services and deliverables.
  • Facilitate timely risk reviews and rectification of exceptions / issues highlighted during Audit / UROM review

Business:

  • Interact with the client, gather deal requirements, financial statements and other inputs for performing quality analysis and due diligence.
  • Primarily responsible for managing the credit risk associated with allotted Business Credit Application (BCA) Portfolio and ensuring high quality of the portfolio within the Business Banking Business.
  • Closely work with the RMs, Credit Approvers, and other stakeholders from the origination & play a vital role in deal structuring to add good value from a Credit Policy and Underwriting perspective.
  • Ensure quality Credit Analysis throughput and speedy BCA completion.
  • Participate and contribute to other Post Disbursement Credit Monitoring and Balance Sheet optimization activities like Covenant and Risk Triggers (CaRTs) closure, Utilization of Approved Limits, facility structuring, etc
  • Work with RM/Team Leads/product partners in structuring credit solutions for the clients and ensuring the appropriateness of the products.
  • Ensure Zero BCA overdue and extensions not breaching the required threshold.
  • Proper maintenance of Credit files and always ensuring Audit Readiness
  • Ensure Covenants and risk triggers (CaRTs) are properly set to track identified key Risks and close CaRTs in a timely manner.
  • Make inputs into the Remediation Strategy set by RMs for accounts on SAM and other accounts showing signs of stress.
  • Work with RMs & Monitoring officer in reviewing regional credit reports i.e. Significant exposure reports.
  • Maintain close contact with the borrowing clients on an ongoing basis
  • Responsible for end-to-end BCA process including preparing all the tools like Loan Application Tool (LAT), Environmental Social Risk Assessment, De-dupes, Credit discussions, Scorecard, etc, in-depth analysis of various risks, quality presentation and ensuring fast credit approval.
  • Ensure compliance of all internal and regulatory credit/other portfolio related policies e.g. input during CCAD preparation, other special reporting requirements, etc.
  • Annual review of credit facilities
  • Liaise with Credit on BCA and other credit issues and ensure quick turnaround on all queries.
  • In partnership with the RM, ensure timely identification of accounts to be put in SAM as per the bank’s policies and guidelines.
  • Effective use of Creditmate and other analysis tools
  • Oversight role for training and directing the frontline as well as fellow colleagues.
  • Promptly carry out Interim BCA reviews and amendments as the business demands

People & Talent:

  • Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development of the frontline sales team and ensure that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles ensuring that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks.
  • Embed the Group’s values and culture.
  • Partner effectively with internal stakeholders to deliver effective client solutions.

Risk Management:

  • Responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, controlling and mitigating risks to the Group. Also, an awareness and understanding of the main risks facing the Group and the role the individual plays in managing them.
  • The ability to interpret the Group’s financial information, identify key issues based on this information and put in place appropriate controls and measures.
  • Ensure a full understanding of the risk and control environment in area of responsibility.
  • Ensure you remain alert to the risk of money laundering and assist in the Bank’s efforts in combating it by adhering to the key principles in relation to: “identifying your customer, knowing your customer, reporting suspicions, safeguarding records and not disclosing suspicions to customers.

Processes:

  • To build Institutional relationship, Business Development and on-going review of banking requirements.
  • Liaising in regard to Documentation, legal advice and keeping abreast of legal developments in the area.
  • Market knowledge, Competitor information and matters of common concern like pricing of facilities, organisation structure, etc.
  • Partner with Country ITO, WRB Credit, Operations, Integrated Middle Office (IMO, Procurement, Segment and Finance Teams on service level management.
  • Recommend improvements in operational processes, procedures and products based on monitoring of customer feedback to ensure constant enhancement of service levels and efficiency.

Governance:

  • Responsible for assessing the effectiveness of the Group’s arrangements to deliver effective governance, oversight and controls in the business and, if necessary, oversee changes in these areas
  • Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework, in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.
  • Responsible for delivering ‘effective governance’; capability to challenge fellow executives effectively; and willingness to work with any local regulators in an open and cooperative manner.

Regulatory & Business Conduct:

  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank.   • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

  • Embed here for good and Group’s brand and values in Nigeria/RB/Business Banking Segments Team.
  • Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • A graduate qualification with completion of mandatory NYSC
  • MBA is an added advantage.
  • Analytical skills / Problem solving.
  • Member of a Finance related body is an added advantage
  •  Any requisite technical skills gained through professional associations and practical experience.

  • Vintage in Banking not less than 8 years which must have been spent in SME/Commercial Banking
