Job Title: Credit Officer

Location: Sabo Yaba, Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Credit Officer to evaluate loan applications, assess creditworthiness, monitor loan performance, and manage customer relationships.
  • The ideal candidate will ensure that credit is issued in line with company policy, risk appetite, and regulatory standards, while supporting portfolio growth and asset quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and assess credit applications from individuals or businesses.
  • Conduct creditworthiness evaluations using financial analysis, collateral reviews, and background checks.
  • Work with collections or recovery teams to manage delinquent accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide support and education to clients on credit terms and obligations.
  • Prepare and submit periodic reports on loan performance and credit quality.
  • Identify risks and propose mitigating measures where necessary.
  • Recommend loan approvals or rejections in line with risk guidelines.
  • Monitor and follow up on approved loans to ensure timely repayment.
  • Maintain proper documentation and update customer records on the credit management system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree / HND / OND in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to make objective, data-driven decisions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and credit analysis tools.
  • 2 – 3 years of experience in credit analysis, lending, or financial services.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk assessment and loan processing procedures.
  • Good knowledge of credit-related regulations and compliance standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in microfinance, SME lending, or retail credit.
  • Certification in Credit Risk Management or related fields is a plus.
  • Familiarity with loan tracking or banking software.
