TechChange provides human-powered services like facilitation, production, support, and design and a user-centric platform to support over 500K users across some 800 courses, workshops, and events.ROLE OVERVIEWTechChange is looking for an experienced Event Manager/Producer to play a pivotal role in leading the planning and delivery of the in-person part of a 4-day hybrid conference of ~500 people to take place in Abuja, Nigeria in April of 2026 (with planning currently underway).An ideal candidate will have a track record of managing business and professional events at hotels and conference centers of similar size and has a vetted list of vendors locally in audio-visual/production, printing & design, travel, catering, hotels and more.This role will work remotely with the event planning team and will need to be flexible for working with staff based across USA, European and West Africa timezones for virtual meetings. The Global Event Manager will also need to conduct site visits and venue walkthroughs in Abuja, meetings and planning sessions with venue and vendors, conduct event layout planning, and meet with our local partners and government officials as needed. The event manager will also be the lead during the live event days on site in Abuja, Nigeria coordinating venue, vendors, volunteer and temporary staff, and supporting the TechChange team and event committee in the meticulous execution of this 500+ attendee in-person event.To learn more about previous TechChange internal events:

ICT4DCORE RESPONSIBILITIESCommunications & Project Management
- Develop and manage project plan for your work stream to keep all stakeholders aligned and informed ensuring event success.
- Join event planning meetings providing weekly status updates, raising risks, and keeping all critical stakeholders and staff informed.
- Keep the VP of Partner Success & Delivery (manager) informed of any budget needs or project risks and partner together to problem-solve issues.
- Collaborate with TechChange’s Business Development team members on sponsorship needs and fullfillment.
- Oversee and recruit local event management resources for global events (on-location support, ushers, volunteers).
- Partners with Manager, Hybrid Events on virtual/hybrid events planning and production.
Venue & Vendor Selection: Abuja, Nigeria
- Source local AV services, catering/F&B, and additional event vendors as needed to develop a successful participant experience. Ideally you have preferred vendors in the city
- Negotiate contracts & obtain timely approval of vendor contracts from TechChange VP of Partner Success & Delivery.
Vendor Management: Abuja, Nigeria
- Ensure that vendor contract terms are met throughout the event process.
- Manage suppliers, vendors, and venues including, but not limited to AV, F&B, catering, furniture and decor, signage printer/installer, booth production, venue, security etc.
- Manage vendor-related event budget to ensure it does not surpass the allocated total spend.
- Coordinate purchase/lease and delivery of necessary supplies for on-site operational execution (signage, print outs, staging, exhibitor booths).
- Coordinate with the Business Development on Sponsor-specific needs including any logo signage, on-site equipment, or catering for sponsored sessions (e.g. Happy Hour or lunch).
Event Design
- Space planning & layout for sessions and user experience, sets & staging, signage and logistics
- Identify on-site staffing needs for live event and coordinate with VP on resourcing (registration, room management, booth support, etc.).
Onsite Event Management & Support: Abuja, Nigeria
- Manage event setup the day before the live event coordinating vendors, venue, and F&B.
- Manage the on-site attendee experience, including flow, crowd control, vendor management, ad-hoc participant support etc.
- Manage on-site run of show during event
- Manage staff and volunteers for the day of event execution (registration, greeters, sponsors, room support, AV, hotel or venue, F&B)
- Comply with legal, insurance, health, and local event regulations and meet all safety requirements.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience in managing large-scale in-person events (5+ years directly managing in-person events)
- Strong project management skills, able to handle multiple events concurrently if needed.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, essential for stakeholder engagement.
- Flexibility and adaptability to navigate the dynamic landscape of events.
- Experience with Abuja based events management preferred
REMOTE/TIME ZONE CONSIDERATIONS * Remote (distributed, work-from-home structure). Will need to be available for meetings in EST/US timezone.
- Hours are flexible and variable are estimated at 10-20/hours per week during the first four to five months of the event planning and then increasing to 30-40 in the final two to three months leading up to the event.
- Ability to travel locally to on-site event location in Abuja, Nigeria (less than 25% time)
