This position is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of ferry services and vessels.This role is crucial to the success of a significant international euro-based project in Lagos State.Job ObjectiveThe objective of this position is to be responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of ferry services and vessels.This role involves overseeing vessel maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and providing exceptional customer service to passengers. The specialist will collaborate with professionals to enhance operational efficiency and contribute to a positive travel experience.Principal Accountabilities and ResponsibilitiesResponsibilitiesVessel Maintenance Management
- Maintenance Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance schedules for ferry vessels, ensuring that all equipment and systems are regularly inspected, serviced, and repaired as needed.
- Preventive Maintenance: Oversee preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend vessels’ lifespan, documenting all maintenance activities accurately.
Safety and Compliance Oversight
- Safety Protocols: Establish and enforce safety protocols for vessel operations, ensuring compliance with local, national, and international maritime regulations.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all ferry vessels meet safety and environmental standards, including adherence to regulatory requirements set by maritime authorities.
- Inspections and Audits: Coordinate and conduct safety inspections, audits, and drills to ensure crew members are trained and prepared for emergencies.
Technical Expertise and Troubleshooting
- Technical Support: Provide technical expertise in the operation and maintenance of ferry propulsion systems, electrical systems, and auxiliary machinery.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues that arise during vessel operations, collaborating with engineering and maintenance teams to implement practical solutions.
Operational Efficiency
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor vessel performance metrics, including fuel consumption, speed, and operational efficiency, identifying areas for improvement.
- Fuel Efficiency Initiatives: Develop and implement strategies to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce operational costs, promoting environmentally sustainable practices.
Collaboration and Communication
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with operations, engineering, and regulatory teams to coordinate activities, share information, and address technical challenges.
- Training and Development: Assist in training crew members on vessel operations, safety procedures, and emergency response protocols, ensuring that all personnel are knowledgeable and competent.
Documentation and Reporting
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and compliance audits, ensuring that documentation is readily available for review by regulatory authorities.
- Reporting: Prepare reports on vessel performance, maintenance activities, and compliance status for management review, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
Continuous Improvement
- Best Practices: Stay informed about industry best practices, technological advancements, and regulatory changes, integrating new knowledge into vessel operations and maintenance strategies.
- Innovation Initiatives: Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in vessel design, equipment, and operational practices to enhance overall performance and safety.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in marine transportation, nautical science, business administration or strategic management or related field preferred; or equivalent experience.
- Experience in Design, construction and operation
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in marine operations or ferry services.
- Experience in vessel maintenance and safety compliance.
