The organisation has vast experience managing, enhancing, and improving navigation opportunities for the country’s waterways.We are looking to recruit an Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Specialist to design, implement, and manage advanced technology solutions that enhance transportation systems’ efficiency, safety, and sustainability.This role is crucial to the success of a significant international euro-based project in Lagos State.Job ObjectiveThe ITS Specialist focuses on integrating technologies such as traffic management systems, data analytics, sensors, and communication networks to optimise transport operations, reduce congestion, and improve user experience.Principal Accountabilities and ResponsibilitiesResponsibilitiesDesign and Development of ITS Solutions
- System Design: Develop and design Intelligent Transport Systems that improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and provide real-time information to drivers and passengers.
- Technology Integration: Integrate sensors, traffic management systems, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication, GPS, and automation to create more innovative transportation networks.
- Feasibility Studies: Conduct feasibility studies to determine the potential impact and effectiveness of ITS projects on the current transportation system.
Implementation and Deployment
- Project Management: Lead the planning, implementation, and deployment of ITS projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope and within budget.
- Installation of ITS Technologies: Oversee the installation of ITS infrastructure, such as traffic signal controllers, variable message signs, automatic toll collection systems, and other intelligent transport technologies.
- Testing and Validation: Ensure the proper testing and validation of ITS systems to confirm they meet performance standards and operational requirements.
Traffic Management and Optimization
- Traffic Flow Optimization: Utilize ITS technologies to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance the efficiency of waterways networks through dynamic traffic management solutions.
- Real-Time Traffic Monitoring: Monitor traffic in real-time using sensors, cameras, and data analytics to identify and respond to incidents, accidents, or congestion.
- Incident and Emergency Management: Implement ITS solutions that assist in detecting and responding to incidents or emergencies on the waterways, improving response times and safety.
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Data Collection: Collect data from ITS technologies, such as traffic patterns, ferry counts, and speed data, to analyse transportation performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on system performance, traffic trends, and project outcomes, providing insights to stakeholders and decision-makers.
Collaboration with Stakeholders
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with local governments, transportation authorities, city planners, engineers, and technology providers to design and implement ITS projects that meet the community’s needs.
- Vendor Management: Work with third-party vendors and technology providers to acquire and implement the necessary ITS technologies, ensuring that solutions are up to standard.
Innovation and Technology Advancement
- Research and Development: Stay up-to-date with advancements in transportation technologies, smart cities, and ITS innovations. Continuously explore emerging technologies
- Innovative Solutions: Propose and implement innovative ITS solutions, such as automated traffic enforcement, intelligent parking systems, and integrated multimodal transport management systems.
Sustainability and Environmental Impact
- Sustainable Transportation Solutions: Design ITS projects that promote sustainable transport, reduce carbon emissions, and support eco-friendly alternatives such as electric vehicles (EVs) and public transport optimisation.
- Environmental Monitoring: Implement ITS technologies that track environmental factors like air quality, fuel consumption, and noise pollution, helping to create greener urban environments.
Compliance and Standards
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all ITS solutions comply with national and international transportation standards, regulations, and guidelines.
- Security and Data Privacy: Implement cybersecurity measures and protocols to protect ITS systems from threats, ensure the privacy of collected transportation data, and prevent unauthorised access.
Maintenance and Support
- System Maintenance: Oversee the ongoing maintenance of ITS infrastructure, ensuring that systems are updated, serviced, and functioning optimally.
- Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Respond to and troubleshoot technical issues related to ITS systems, ensuring minimal downtime and maintaining system reliability.
Training and Knowledge Sharing
- Training Staff and Users: Provide training and support to internal teams, operators, and stakeholders on using and maintaining ITS technologies.
- Knowledge Sharing: Develop training materials and conduct workshops to promote the adoption of ITS technologies and best practices among transportation professionals.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, such as Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Traffic Engineering or Systems Engineering
- Ten years of experience in IT support or a related role.
- Understanding intelligent transportation systems, traffic management systems, Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication, sensors, GPS, traffic signals, and other intelligent transportation technologies.
- Familiarity with ITS software, GIS tools, simulation tools (e.g., VISSIM, Aimsun), SCADA systems, and real-time data analytics platforms.
- Experience working with or optimising public transport systems using ITS technologies (e.g., real-time bus tracking and intelligent ticketing systems).
- ITS Certification from professional bodies, such as the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) or ITS America.
