Nigerian Electricity Supply Corporation (NESCO) Nigeria Limited is an electric utility Company providing economic and highly reliable electricity service in Nigeria since 1929. It is incorporated under the Companies Act of the Laws of Nigeria. Its core business is to generate, distribute, supply and retail electric power in Plateau State and adjacent States.
In its drive to ensure improved and sustained efficiency and effectiveness in delivery of its mandate with strategic leadership and management, NESCO (Nigeria) Limited is seeking to recruit fully qualified, highly motivated, and well experienced persons to fill the vacant positions of Lead, Operations & Maintenance, Maintenance Planning Engineer, Machinist/Turner and Power Plant Operators that have arisen in the Corporation’s Generation Department. Currently, power generation is from hydro power plants.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Lead, Operations & Maintenance
Location: Kurra Falls / Bukuru, Jos – Plateau
Purpose of the Job
- To provide leadership and management expertise in the planning, coordination, and delivery of efficient and cost-effective power generation services, as well as maintenance of assets to support NESCO’s corporate objective.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Lead, Operations & Maintenance shall therefore be responsible, but not limited, for the following:
- Manage the generation function, providing leadership, encouraging teamwork and facilitating the process to achieve high performance standards in the cost-effective generation of power
- Formulate strategies for Operations & Maintenance to ensure that objectives of reliability and continuity of electricity generation demands are met
- Develop maintenance programs, in respect of NESCO’s power generation operations
- Formulate the development of policies, procedures and standards to direct and control the technical field operations effectively
- Accountable for project works, testing and commissioning projects in relation to the generation activities of NESCO
- Oversee compliance with all Quality Management System /Occupational Health & Safety related activities in the department as documented in the departmental operations manual, risk assessment register and other relevant documents
- Prepare periodic reports for the attention of the Head, Generation
- Develop program of work for the Generation Department to ensure that deliverables are achieved within established timescales
- Ensure all activities are undertaken in strict compliance with approved technical system operation procedures in order to protect NESCO’s personnel, assets and corporate reputation
- Obtain information on regional and international trends and developments in the power generation sector in order to identify those that can be recommended for effective adaptation and deployment in NESCO
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by the Head, Generation
Minimum Educational & Professional Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Higher National Diploma (HND) with COREN accredited Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) plus Master’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized tertiary institution.
- Minimum of six (6) years substantial practical relevant post qualifying hands-on working experience in the planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of major engineering works preferably with a strong bias towards power generation plants three (3) of which should be at a Supervisory Role.
- Applicants with actual hydro power plants operations, maintenance refurbishment/overhaul, modernisation and upgrade experience will have a strong added advantage.
- Relevant Professional Certifications with engineering professional bodies including full membership registration with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) or a Related Specialized Certification.
- Those with a postgraduate qualification in relevant discipline such as a Master’s Degree in an Engineering Discipline, Business Administration or Management from a recognized tertiary institution will have an added advantage.
