Legal Counsel at Grand Cereals Limited (GCL)


Grand Cereals Limited (GCL), a subsidiary of UAC of Nigeria Plc, is an integrated foods company whose primary activity is the creation of superior value from local raw materials to produce and deliver superior quality brands in the animal feed, edible oils, breakfast cereals, pet food and other intermediate and consumer cereals products to Nigeria and West Africa markets.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

Job Title: Legal Counsel

Location: Plateau

Employment Type: Full-time

Purpose Statement

  • The role ensures that the organization’s operations align with legal and regulatory frameworks.

Key Accountabilities

Legal Advisory & Compliance:

  • Provide expert legal advice on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and contractual matters.
  • Monitor changes in legislation that may affect the company and advise on necessary adjustments.
  • Assist in identifying, analysing, and evaluating legal risks and developing risk mitigation strategies to protect the company’s, assets, and stakeholders’ interest respectively.
  • Ensure adherence to industry-specific regulations, including environmental laws, health and safety standards, and labor laws.

Intellectual Property Protection:

  • Safeguard the company’s intellectual property by managing trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
  • Address issues related to counterfeiting and unauthorized use of the company’s products or branding.

Corporate Governance & Secretarial Duties:

  • Ensure compliance with corporate governance standards and support the organization in adhering to best practices.
  • Assist in providing a full spectrum of company secretarial services to the company,Board and shareholders

Contract Management:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with suppliers, distributors, and other third parties to safeguard the company’s interests.
  • Ensure that all contractual agreements comply with legal standards and company policies.

Dispute Resolution & Litigation:

  • Manage legal disputes including overseeing litigation processes and coordinating with external counsel when necessary.

Educational Qualification & Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB); Master of Laws (LLM) is an added advantage.
  • Admission to the bar in relevant jurisdiction.
  • 5+ years of post-qualification legal experience, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Knowledge, Skill & Ability:

  • Strong knowledge of commercial, contract, labor, and regulatory law.
  • Business-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience in working in cross-functional teams and global environments is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and drafting skills.

  • Microsoft Office Applications.
