Job Description
- MPBN Engineer (Operations) will be responsible for maintenance, operation, and configuration of networking devices like routers, switches, firewalls etc. in a multi-vendor environment.
- He or she will be responsible for the day-to-day management and upkeep of these networking devices, ensuring they are functioning correctly and meeting performance requirements
Responsibilities
Network Resilience and Assurance:
- Responsible for resiliency testing, availability and overall IP Core network assurance across Airtel POPs
- Work together with Planning teams to draw out considerable best and workable solutions for any integration of services to MPLS network
- Access control Management to all Airtel MPBN nodes
Configuration Audit:
- Configuration audit of all planned activities in the IP Core/transport domain to ensure first time right implementations
- Oversee network activities across Mobile Service VPNs
- Support New integrations in PS, CS and Charging networks
- Proper scrutiny of all new additions and update of existing records for every change in Transport Layer Architecture
MPBN Documentation and Reporting:
- Primarily responsible for All MPBN implementation’s Documentation – Designs, Audits, Network Architecture etc;
- Run monthly checks on critical implementation documents and updates when due
Quality of Service(QoS) Assurance:
- Ensure that different types of traffic receive appropriate levels of service and prioritization.
- Be the linkage between Airtel Planning team and the MS team in QoS implementation.
Enterprise Services Support:
- Responsible for Enterprise MPLS tunnel and internet edge implementations
- Work hand-in-hand with enterprise Planning, MPBN Planning and the MS team to draw out considerable best and workable solutions for integration of services to MPLS network
Project Implementation:
- Supports Project implementation within primary domain and ensure they are delivered to set timelines
Change Management:
- Compiles and delivers all weekly change requests for MPBN Operations in conjuction with the MS team
- Ensures MS team full compliance on all activities implemented within the MPBN domain to change management process
Internet Edge Implementation/Support
- Engages stakeholder teams for implementation of design/optimization for traffic distribution.
- Primarily responsible for supporting Internet edge related projects from Operations perspective
- Manages operational issues on Caches & NNI
Network Security:
- Management and support on all operational activities for of Firewall bordering the Core Network.
- Primarily responsible for Operational Activities of all Firewalls
- Anchors engagements of Vendors on resolution of issues relating to DDoS, IPDR and Anti-Spam solutions
- Primarily responsible for engagements of service providers on resolution of issues relating to DDoS, IPDR and Anti-Spam solutions
- Drives Network cleanups from VA Scan advised by Security team with MS
Firewall Management:
- Primarily responsible for the operational activities of the Firewalls
Dimensions:
Financial Dimensions:
- Responsible for maintenance, operation, and configuration of networking devices like routers, switches, firewalls etc. Minimum of 99% successful product and TT completion each month
Other Dimensions
- Documentation and reporting/Configuration audit – Per AOP
- Deployment, Installation execution – As per AOP
Qualifications
Educational Qualifications:
- University degree in Telecom Engineering, Computer Science, Networks, Technical or electrical or equivalent qualification
- Professional Certification in Networking is desirable
Relevant Experience & Functional / Technical Skills:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in technical role within Telecom/ ISP space and understanding of best practices in IP Core technologies and deep knowledge of routers, Switches, FW etc management.
- Resilience and ability to deliver against stretch targets
- Strong entrepreneurial spirit
- Analytical skills and strong Troubleshooting Acumen
- Latest technology and processes used in related industries such as the IP Core, IP edge, internet edge etc.
- Proven team Leadership skills – Ability to influence and get things done quickly is critical.
