We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

Job Title: Radiation Therapist

Location: Kano Cancer Treatment Center, Kano

Department: Radiotherapy Unit

Reports to: Head of Clinical Services/Medical Director

Working Hours: Full-time; shift-based schedules including weekends / public holidays as needed

Work type: Onsite clinical role

Travel Requirements: Minimal, may include training or conferences

Job Summary

  • The Radiation Therapist at Kano Cancer Treatment Center (KCTC) plays a vital role in delivering safe, precise, and compassionate radiotherapy treatments to cancer patients.
  • The role exists to ensure accurate setup, operation, and monitoring of radiotherapy equipment in alignment with prescribed treatment plans.
  • As part of a multidisciplinary oncology team, the therapist contributes to achieving optimal clinical outcomes, patient safety, and a positive treatment experience.
  • This position is central to KCTC’s mission of providing world-class cancer care to patients in Nigeria and across Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer radiotherapy treatments accurately in accordance with Oncologist’s prescriptions and treatment plans.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain linear accelerators and other radiotherapy equipment to ensure safe, high-quality delivery.
  • Conduct patient positioning and immobilization, ensuring comfort and reproducibility of treatment setup.
  • Educate and reassure patients and their families about treatment procedures, expected outcomes, and potential side effects.
  • Ensure compliance with radiation safety protocols and infection prevention and control Measures
  • Participate in quality assurance programs, continuous professional development, and research initiatives.
  • Contribute to departmental planning, audits, and improvements to enhance service delivery and patient experience.
  • Monitor patients during treatment, promptly reporting side effects, adverse reactions, or concerns to the oncologist.
  • Collaborate closely with radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, and nurses to optimize treatment delivery.
  • Maintain detailed treatment records, patient files, and documentation in line with regulatory and institutional standards.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Radiography, Radiotherapy, or related field.
  • Current registration with the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN).
  • Certification/training in PGD Radiotherapy mandatory.
  • Knowledge of radiotherapy equipment (eg., Varian Halcyon, TrueBeam and Brachytherapy systems) preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 – 3 years post-qualification clinical experience in radiotherapy.
  • Experience in working with modern linear accelerators and image-guided radiotherapy is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in oncology settings with multidisciplinary teams will be an advantage.
