Overview

  • This role will be responsible for Regulatory Compliance of all product made under the PepsiCo Brand in Nigeria, as well as Ethopia.
  • The role also Plays a critical part in the compliance of product exported from South Africa into West and East Africa.
  • The role will work with the External Affairs team to engade West and  East African Authorities  by ensuring continued engagement with key external stakeholders and enabling regulatory unlocks in the key markets to support future innovations and ensure business continuity.

Responsibilities

Regulatory Affairs Capability:

  • Expert resource for the business on Food and Beverage regulations and their application for all PepsiCo products manufactured or sold in Nigeria and Ethiopian market and export countries.
  • Provide guidance and training to key stakeholders relating to regulatory requirements

Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of food and beverage legislation including those in relation to ingredients, packaging, manufacture, composition, labelling and advertising.
  • Accountabilities include:o Work with R&D / Regulatory Affairs and Supply Chain to ensure ongoing compliance with food and beverage regulations.o Responsible for implementing new food regulationso Key partner in import and export initiatives.
  • Local roll out of PEP EMEA and Global regulatory programmes• Provide regulatory support during incidents including liaison with regulatory authorities.

Innovation, Productivity and Commercial projects:

  • Provide comprehensive partnership/support to projects from concept to shelf, incl.
  • Provide Regulatory input to TSG/SG as requiredo Product design, composition, packaging and labelling requirementso Interpretational guidance on claims and positioningo
  • Aspects of advertising and promotion governed by food legislation

External Affairs:

  • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure R&D and business colleagues are aware.
  • Represent PepsiCo in relevant trade associations and with regulators.
  • Build and maintain a network of contacts in the food industry, trade associations and regulatory authorities.
  • Act as the key contact for go to market distribution partners in relation to regulatory affairs topics.
  • Provide input to MEA Region and Global external affairs activities
  • Work with others in the Regulatory team to develop positions and respond to regulatory developments.
  • Work with Regulatory and Corp Affairs teams to develop positions and respond to regulatory developments.

Qualifications

  • Science Degree, Food Science or related discipline will be an advantage
  • Language: Excellent command of English (must be able to read, understand, apply regulations and use nuanced language for product claims)
  • Detailed knowledge of Nigerian and Ethiopian regulations and registration processes, as well as CODEX food and beverage regulations, particularly areas relating to ingredients, final product, contaminants, packaging/food contact materials, labelling and manufacture. Knowledge of other African regulations will be an advantage.
  • Detailed knowledge of regulations on relevant equipment will be an advantage.
  • Required experience: 5-7 years:

    • A track record in interpreting and applying regulatory requirements in a commercial setting.
    • Experience of implementing new regulations in a business.
    • Experience in monitoring regulatory developments.
    • Experience in agreeing on interpretations with regulatory authorities.

  • Strong executional capability and project management skills.
  • Ability to provide insight to the business from both a strategic and tactical perspective.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (including the ability to interpret complex subject matter and succinctly summarize achievements, communicate ably to range of stakeholders).
  • Attention to detail and forethought of impact.
  • Results-oriented, proactive self-starter, able to work on own initiative and as a team player.
  • Ability to integrate into and communicate with different levels and functions of the organisation.
