Job Title: Safety Officer

Reports To: Managing Director, Project Manager, or Chief Operating Officer
Job Summary
- The Safety Officer is accountable for ensuring a secure work environment at our construction sites by implementing safety policies, conducting comprehensive risk assessments, and enhancing safety awareness among employees.
- This position necessitates collaboration with project managers and personnel to minimize risks and ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Policy Implementation: Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures per local, state, and federal regulations.
- Risk Assessment and Management: Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of construction sites to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety standards.
- Training and Education: Organize safety training sessions for employees to ensure a thorough understanding of safety practices, equipment usage, and emergency procedures.
- Environmental Compliance: Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and advocate for sustainable practices within construction processes.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate closely with project managers, supervisors, and employees to cultivate a culture of safety and ensure effective communication regarding safety concerns.
- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans; conduct drills to ensure preparedness for a variety of emergencies.
- Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents, near misses, and safety infractions to ascertain root causes and implement appropriate corrective measures.
- Safety Reporting: Maintain precise records of safety incidents, inspections, and training activities. Prepare reports for management and regulatory agencies as required.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.
- Certification in safety management, such as OSHA Certified or NEBOSH, is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Capability to conduct physical inspections of construction sites.
- Proficiency in lifting and carrying materials and equipment as necessary.
- A minimum of three to five years of experience in safety management within the construction sector.
- Strong knowledge of relevant safety laws and regulations.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- The Safety Officer will primarily operate on construction sites, which may expose them to typical construction hazards. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
