Gilead Initiative for Sustainable Development (GISD) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing sustainable and inclusive development by addressing the needs of vulnerable populations, particularly women, children, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs). We adopt a people-centered, rights-based, and participatory approach, ensuring that marginalized voices are amplified and community-led solutions are prioritized.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

Job Title: Volunteer

Location: Makurdi, Benue

Position Type: Volunteer (Part-time/Full-time options available)

Duration: 3–6 months (with possibility of extension based on performance and availability)

Job Description

  • We are seeking dedicated and passionate volunteers to support our operations at the GISD Makurdi Office.
  • Volunteers will contribute to program implementation, office administration, partnership engagement, and community outreach.
  • This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the development sector while making a real difference in local communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support planning, coordination, and implementation of GISD programs and events.
  • Assist in documentation, report writing, and record-keeping.
  • Provide administrative assistance and contribute to daily office operations.
  • Contribute ideas for project development and resource mobilization.
  • Engage with community stakeholders, partners, and beneficiaries during field activities.
  • Support communication efforts including social media management and advocacy campaigns.

Requirements

  • Minimum of OND/NCE; Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Public Health, or related fields is an advantage.
  • Basic computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet use).
  • Ability to commit at least 20 hours per week.
  • Prior volunteer or NGO experience is an asset but not mandatory.
  • Strong interest in community development, youth empowerment, climate change, or human rights.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
