Job description: About the ClientOur client is a global industrial group specializing in services for the oil and gas sector, is hiring for its Nigerian subsidiary to support a major gas extraction plant construction project.About the RoleThe Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the execution of field construction activities on onshore oil & gas project in Nigeria. This includes managing construction crews, supervising subcontractors, and ensuring that work is completed safely, on time, and in accordance with drawings, specifications, and quality standards. The Superintendent serves as the key field leader, ensuring efficient coordination between engineering, procurement, HSE, and site teams.Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day on-site construction activities for civil, mechanical, piping, structural, or electrical disciplines (as applicable).
  • Ensure construction work is carried out in compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and procedures.
  • Coordinate field execution schedules and monitor progress against milestones.
  • Manage site manpower, materials, tools, and equipment to achieve productivity and safety targets.
  • Interface with subcontractors and vendors to ensure timely and efficient execution.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks, safety briefings, and ensure compliance with HSE procedures.
  • Participate in site inspections, quality checks, and punch list management.
  • Report construction progress, issues, and risks to the Construction Manager and Project Manager.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of site activities, material usage, and workforce deployment.
  • Lead or support pre-commissioning and mechanical completion activities as required.
  • Identify and resolve construction issues in real time, escalating when necessary.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical) or a related construction field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of construction experience in the oil & gas or heavy industrial sector.
  • At least 3–5 years in a supervisory or superintendent role on large-scale onshore projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, drawings, welding/fabrication, rigging, lifting, and quality standards.
  • Experience working with international contractors and multicultural teams.
  • Competence in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, P&IDs, and construction documents.
  • Proficient in construction planning and reporting tools (e.g., MS Project, Excel).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills.

Certifications & Additional Requirements

  • Valid HSE training/certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent).
  • Permit to Work (PTW) system experience.
  • Fluent in English; ability to communicate in French or local languages is a plus.
  • Willingness to work in remote site conditions on a rotational basis.
