The organisation has vast experience managing, enhancing, and improving navigation opportunities for the country’s waterways.We are looking to recruit a Ferry Operations Specialist to optimise the operational efficiency and safety of ferry services.This role is crucial to the success of a significant international euro-based project in Lagos State.Job ObjectiveThe job objective of a Ferry Operations Specialist is to optimise the operational efficiency and safety of ferry services.This role encompasses managing daily ferry operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, enhancing customer service, and coordinating with various stakeholders to facilitate smooth and effective ferry services.Functional ResponsibilitiesOperational Management

  • Daily Operations Oversight: Manage and coordinate daily ferry operations, including vessel scheduling, crew assignments, and route management to ensure timely departures and arrivals.
  • Resource Allocation: Optimize the allocation of resources, including vessels, crew, and equipment, to maximise operational efficiency and minimise delays.

Safety and Compliance

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations adhere to local, national, and international maritime regulations and safety standards, including environmental considerations.
  • Safety Protocol Implementation: Develop, implement, and monitor safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe environment for passengers, crew, and vessels.
  • Incident Response: Coordinate responses to safety incidents, emergencies, or operational disruptions, ensuring effective management and communication.

Customer Service

  • Passenger Support: Address passenger inquiries, concerns, and complaints, providing high-quality service to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Experience Enhancement: Collaborate with marketing and customer service teams to develop initiatives to improve passenger experience and promote ferry services.

Performance Monitoring

  • Data Analysis: Monitor and analyse operational performance metrics, including on-time performance, passenger load factors, and service reliability, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on operational performance, safety incidents, and customer feedback for management review, contributing to informed decision-making.

Collaboration and Coordination

  • Cross-Departmental Coordination: Work closely with engineering, maintenance, and terminal operations teams to ensure seamless service delivery and resolve operational issues.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with regulatory agencies, local authorities, and community stakeholders to foster positive relationships and address operational concerns.

Training and Development

  • Staff Training: Develop and deliver training programs for ferry crew and staff on operational procedures, safety protocols, and customer service standards.
  • Performance Evaluation: Help evaluate staff performance by providing feedback and support to ensure high standards of service and safety.

Crisis Management and Contingency Planning

  • Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency contingency plans, ensuring that crew and staff are trained and prepared for various scenarios.
  • Crisis Communication: Manage communication during crises, coordinating with internal teams and external agencies to ensure accurate information is disseminated.

Sustainability Initiatives

  • Environmental Practices: Promote and implement environmentally sustainable practices within ferry operations, including waste management and fuel efficiency initiatives.
  • Regulatory Updates: Stay informed about changes in environmental regulations and best practices, integrating them into operational strategies.

  • A bachelor’s degree in maritime studies, marine transportation, logistics, business administration, or a related field is often preferred.
