Your responsibilities…

  • You will advise the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors on corporate governance and legal strategy, acting as a trusted legal partner.
  • You will provide accurate, timely, and actionable guidance on company law, regulatory compliance, and contractual matters.
  • You will oversee all company compliance with Nigerian laws and energy industry regulations, ensuring zero breaches.
  • You will manage and coordinate with external legal firms, transferring matters as needed and evaluating performance.
  • You will review and maintain company legal documents, including PPAs, GSPAs, service contracts, and legal correspondence.
  • You will lead or support the resolution of legal disputes, ensuring timely, favorable outcomes for the company.
  • You will ensure proper documentation and registration of all legal agreements with ministries and regulatory bodies.
  • You will support internal departments with legal consultations and ensure risk-mitigated decision-making across the company.
  • You will prepare and deliver departmental legal reports and act as the secretary to the Board and its committees, facilitating smooth operations.
  • You will serve as the point of contact for Directors, preparing board meeting documentation and facilitating governance procedures.

To be considered, you should have…

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Law; a postgraduate qualification in Law or a business-related field is an added advantage.
  • 10–15 years of post-call experience, including at least 5 years in-house within a power or energy company or in private practice supporting such clients.
  • Strong understanding of energy industry laws, commercial and company law, and experience with contracts related to power generation and distribution.
  • Demonstrated expertise in litigation, dispute resolution, compliance management, and corporate governance.
  • Membership in the Nigerian Bar Association is required.
